Paul H Simmons RPS
Paul's professional photographic journey stems from a lust to travel, which he inherited from his father who was a merchant seaman during and after WWII. Many a time he would put Paul on his knee and tell him stories of the places he had visited, which to a little lad growing up playing in the bombed-out streets that was North London in the post-war years, was like being transported into fantasy land. As he progressed into manhood he vowed to see as many places that he could that his father had told him about and to experience the sounds, smells and tastes for himself.
He was lucky enough to marry someone who tolerated his passion to travel, even though she was at times unwell because of the extremes in temperatures. He was also lucky enough to be in a fairly well paid job that allowed him to travel to these far off lands. His dreams of visiting all those places have been fulfilled and he has surpassed the number of countries that his father had told him about, currently that being 109 countries & over 2,000 destinations.
Paul's interest in photography started when he was around 11 and kept pace with all the modern trends from simple box cameras, through look- alike Leica cameras that took half-frame 120 & 620 black & white films and a Russian Zenit E Single Lens Reflex. By the time he started earning his first wage from being a telegram boy in London's West End, he was well on the way to owning his first Nikon F (pictured above), which is still in his possession. He has switched fully now to digital, as the technology has enabled the resolution to be almost as good as film. That also means that he no longer has to use a darkroom to produce printed images. Paul's passion for travel and his photographic and videography skills ran hand in glove and he approached a photo agency to act as his agent to sell the pictures. At that time he was working for the Daily Mail and their picture library still has hundreds of his photos as well, using them regularly when they required shots of foreign locations that he has visited. Various travel and airline magazines have published his images and stories, appearing also on TV and radio programs in various countries - enabling him to travel more and more.
His photographic, "in-the-field", expertise is extensive and includes - Travel, Antiques and Antiquities, Macro (Jewellry etc.), Stage & Movies, Glamour, Landscape, Personal & Family Portraits etc. and he is available for private commission work, functions and portfolio creation in his newly fitted studio, your home or convenient location.
